Those people lucky enough to see
Sven Boekhorst skating at the
2000 Long Beach Marathon in Southern California got a real
treat: Watching this world champion aggressive rider skating a half-pipe
in a pair of 5 wheel clap-frame speedskates!
It was the end of a long 2-day Vendor Expo, and this trick started
out as a joke between the guys at the
Mogema Sports booth and world champion
Dutch aggressive skater Sven Boekhorst. Sven put on a pair of
Mogema Pro Carbon Speed Boots with the new
Mogema M41 Clap Frame,
and started skating on the half-pipe set up for Rollerblade's
aggressive skating demonstration!
Dutch aggressive skater Sven Boekhorst, of
Team Rollerblade Europe, has been very hot in 2000. He won
first place at three of the most prestigious events
in aggressive skating: the
Gravity Games, the
XGames, and the
ASA Pro Tour World Championships:
-
The XGAMES - RESULTS
Sven Boekhorst, First Place, Men's Inline Park
-
THE GRAVITY GAMES - RESULTS
Sven Boekhorst, First Place, Men's Inline Street
-
ASA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - RESULTS
Sven Boekhorst, First Place, Men's Inline Street
After the ASA World Championships in Las Vegas on
October 15, 2000,
Mat Bandelow of the
Aggressive Skaters Association said
"Sven Boekhorst ... has become the only skater to win what
could be called the Triple Crown of Rollerblading. Sven has won the
Gravity Games, the XGames and now the ASA World
Championships. That's a lot of money in only 8 months time."
The Rollerblade aggressive team gave us an exciting show at
the Long Beach Convention Center, before the Long Beach
Marathon. In addition to Dutch skater Sven Boekhorst, we got to
watch Taig Khris from France (first place Vert at the 2000 ASA
World Championships), long-time pro Mike Budnik from Southern
California, 10 year old Willie Woo from Kailua-Kona, Hawaii,
and several other great pro skaters,
including Cory Miller, the manager of Team Rollerblade.
